Yes — fitting a canopy adds weight to your vehicle, which reduces the payload you have left for passengers, fuel, water, and gear, and it counts toward your GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) limit. Aluminium canopies have the advantage here, as they're significantly lighter than steel and heavier fibreglass options — typically 60–90 kg versus well over 100 kg for steel — so they leave you more usable payload. It's still worth checking your vehicle's compliance plate and doing a weighbridge check once your canopy and other accessories are fitted, to make sure you stay within your GVM and axle load limits.

Aluminium canopies typically weigh between 60 kg and 90 kg, depending on the size and design. Most of our standard dual-cab aluminium canopies weigh around 75 kg, making them strong without adding too much extra weight to your vehicle.

Like most metal surfaces, aluminium canopies can warm up in direct sunlight. Heat build-up inside is usually limited thanks to ventilation, door seals, and aluminium’s ability to release heat fairly quickly. Storing tools and equipment in drawers, toolboxes, or protective cases can also help reduce heat exposure and keep your gear in better condition.

Cleaning an aluminium canopy is simple. Use a soft cloth or sponge, mild soap and warm water to remove dust, mud, or road grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners; they can damage the powder-coated surface. Regular cleaning after off-road driving or coastal use helps keep your aluminium canopy in good condition.
