OFFROAD-PROOF ENGINEERING
The ULTRA550 might just be one of the toughest hand-held UHF radios on the market today. It all starts with a die-cast metal chassis, which provides a huge increase in strength over cheaper alternatives that often use a plastic chassis. Oricom have engineered the ULTRA550 to have an IP rating of 67. Put simply, that means that the unit is protected from the effects of dust and immersion in water to depths of up to 1m for up to 30 minutes. Like all electronics it’s not exactly a great idea to go swimming up in Fruitbat Falls in the Cape with it in your pocket, but you don’t have to sweat it if you drop the ULTRA550 in a dirty great mud-puddle!
SERIOUS POWER AT THE FLICK OF A SWITCH
There’s nothing worse than not being able to pick up or transmit to your mates at the top of a hill because your tiny little 0.5w cheapy hand-held UHF doesn’t have enough power! What’s extremely clever about the ULTRA550 is you can switch between 1W and 5W power. You’d use 1W when you’re just outside the vehicle, spotting a mate through a tricky off-road obstacle and you didn’t need the extra power. You’d switch to 5W when you needed to get ahold of a vehicle in your convoy that’s up over the next ridge, or perhaps sitting a kay or two back out of your dust.
A BATTERY TO GO THE DISTANCE
The ULTRA550 has a serious trick up its sleeve that sets it even further apart from the competitors. No problem! You may return or exchange any product within 30 days, as long as the item is in resalable condition and is returned in its original packaging.
